Does the new healthcare reform require us to buy private insurance?

My mother in law is a nurse and she is trying to tell me that the health care bill requires us to purchase private insurance by 2014. I’m not sure if she’s just misinformed or what. Anybody know more about this? Please don’t give your opinion about said reform I just want to know whether or not I need to worry about getting insurance or not. Thanks.

True. That’s exactly what it says. Everyone will have health insurance, because everyone is REQUIRED TO BUY IT. And you’ll have to buy it from a private company.

Mandatory health insurance in Japan?

Every resident in Japan is required to have health insurance either from their employer or by enrolling in the National Health Insurance system. What happens if you refuse to get health insurance (and you don’t get it through your job)? Is there any kind of penalty? Not that I advocate doing this, I’m just curious how the rule is enforced.

Previously, many foreigners were not covered by their employers and didn’t want to pay for the insurance themselves, but things are changing with the new ruling party. There is a new law being floated that will require proof you belong to the insurance plan when you renew your visa. And additionally, they will charge you two years back premiums if you are found not having National Health Insurance. As for Japanese residents, the government is not enforcing the law, but I am sure the uninsured are being refused by hospitals. One prefecture hard hit by swine flu gave uninsured residents temporary health cards so they could go to the hospital in the event they have flu symptoms.

Long-term medical visa plan mulled wine, the government is considering creating a "medical" treatment of visa for foreigners interested in the high-quality long-term health in Japan, according to officials. The government wants to attract wealthy patients from a number of diseases in China and other Asian countries, Japan to the medical industry can in cash, the officials said.
